In September 2005, Porsche announced it was buying a 20% stake in Volkswagen, and the two often worked together developing boxter-engine technologies found in many of today's automobiles. In the 1980's Volkswagen suffered a poor image in the eyes of American consumers. That has since changed though as the most popular models of Volkswagen (in the Passat and Jetta) continued to improve and impress. Today Volkswagen offers seven models to American buyers. While the Jetta, Passat, and New Beetle are well known, the newer vehicles in the lineup include the luxury SUV Touareg and the full-size luxury sedan Phaeton. |
