Mercury is a brand of vehicles produced by the Ford Motor Company. Founded in 1939, Mercury was created to market semi-luxury cars slotted between entry-level Ford vehicles and luxury-brand Lincoln models. Even today, all of Mercury's vehicles are produced on Ford platforms. The namesake for the company comes from the Roman god Mercury. While the company was known in its early years for performance minded vehicles, today's offerings are slightly different. Of the models produced and available from Mercury today, the most successful is likely the Mountaineer, an SUV that is based directly off of the also-popular Ford Explorer. |
