While many believe that Kia began making automobiles a short time ago, the company was actually founded back in 1944. Since it's beginning as a Korean based automobile manufacturer, Kia has helped companies like Mazda to create and produce consumer oriented vehicles.

Kia began marketing its own vehicles to American consumers back in 1994 as dealers began selling the Sephia. The Sportage model, a compact SUV followed a few years later. Today, Kia offers eight models of passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles.

In 1998, Hyundai bought out Kia Motors and sales have improved dramatically since then in America. In 2005 Kia announced that it would be building a new plant in Mississippi in the US to keep up with the US demand for Kia vehicles, which has risen steadily and is expected to reach nearly 300,000 vehicles sold in the US for 2005.
