The Ariel company begain its motoring history in 1847 as a pneumatic tire pioneer. The company subsequently adapted its production lines to build bicycles and sewing machines before moving into three- and four-wheeled cycle production in 1901. Plagued with financial troubles, Ariel produced cars in two spells from 1900 to 1915 then again from 1922 to 1925 afterwhich time the comapany focused its attention on motorcycles. Ariel re-entered the automobile industry in 2000 with the introduction of its only current production vehicle, the Atom. This vehicle more closely resembles a four-wheeled motorcycle than an actual passenger car and touts supercar-beating performance. |
