Acura released its first vehicles to consumers in the United States back in 1986. The Japanese auto manufacturer is still considered to be the first Japanese luxury car brand. While some consumers had their doubts about the vehicles and quality that Acura produced -- such doubts were soon forgotten. In 1987 the Acura Legend won a prestigious award from Motor Trend Magazine as the Import Car of the Year.
